Churches across the city are holding services for Palm Sunday, and the beginning of Holy Week.
Saint Helena's Church in Parkchester says its members believe the day has special significance this year after the year the country went through in 2020.
In November, the US Supreme Court blocked New York State from limiting church services to 25% capacity during the pandemic.
Houses of Worship have been able to open at 50% capacity since the decision.
Saint Helenas is holding two masses today, and churchgoers are required to wear a masks
Parishioners will still get palm branches which represents the palms that were scattered in front of Jesus when he rode into Jerusalem in the Bible.
Saint Helena's Church is also holding a virutal service for those who don't feel safe going in person.
The church will be holding service all of Holy Week.
