The meeting comes as the city has experienced a rise in shooting incidents. The council says it must ensure the mayor's approach protects the constitutional rights of all New Yorkers while also keeping them safe.
Public Advocate Jumaane Williams called the rise in gun violence "alarming."
Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks was also in attendance, calling the mayor's blueprint a critical component in his administration's vision for a multiagency roadmap. He said that public safety requires a collective action of all city resources.
