New York City marked one year since the first reported COVID-19 death in the state.

The ceremony on the Brooklyn waterfront paid tribute to COVID-19 victims with music and emotional speeches, all while images of New Yorkers taken by coronavirus were displayed onto the Brooklyn Bridge.

Mayor Bill de Blasio took time to call on the number of lives lost in the city.

"Today that number is 30,000. It's a number we can barely imagine. More New Yorkers lost than in World War II, Vietnam, Hurricane Sandy and 9/11 put together. Every family touched in some way, and for so many families a pain, a pain that is raw," de Blasio said.

Faith leaders such as Cardinal Timothy Dolan offered some remarks as well.
