Power outages have already started in parts of New York City as rain starts to pound the tri-state region.
The Bronx and Brooklyn are only seeing a few outages so far, but Con Edison says they are expecting to see more as weather conditions worsen.
Con Edison advises residents to stay away from downed power lines and not to move or touch them with another object.
Residents should report all downed wires to Con Edison and their local police department.
If power does goes out, people should disconnect any major appliances to avoid an overload when the power comes back on.
In case power does go out, residents are urged to have a flashlight with batteries.
