The New York Hispanic Clergy Organization is calling to stop the violence and increase police presence as gun violence continues to plague communities.
The demonstration in Fordham called for an end to the violence, an increase in police presence around the area and for the community to do more at homes
The New York Hispanic Clergy Organization gathered with members of the NYPD, Council Member Rev. Ruben Diaz Sr. and others. They say the violence has to stop and in order to do it, criminals need to stay locked up while police need to be out on the streets.
The group says they hope the mayor and governor will hear their cries and reconsider the Less is More Act, which releases inmates from Rikers who were there on a minor, non-criminal violations and that the budget will not cut NYPD funding.
The community says part of this change will be changing the lives of the youth and getting parents more involved in the home for less violence on the streets.
