Starting next week, unemployed New Yorkers will be getting an increase in the maximum weekly unemployment benefit.

The benefit increases from $504 to $869.

Gov. Kathy Hochul says it is part of paying off a $7 billion debt to the federal trust fund.

This comes as a government shutdown leaves more than 150,000 federal workers in New York without paychecks.
