New York legislators have reached the agreement almost a week after the initial deadline for the state's budget. The $220 billion budget agreement affects everything from fuel costs to bail reform.
First up, some relief at the pump. The state sales tax on fuel gas will be suspended as of June 1 and will last until the end of the year.
Next, New Yorkers will soon be able to say cheers from home as to-go-cocktails will be legalized. That's something a lot of restaurants in the city have said will make a big difference in their bottom lines. That goes into effect once the budget is signed.
Lastly, the changes to bail reform. Negotiations over this were contentious and it's largely the reason why legislators missed the April 1 deadline. The governor says now a judge can set bail for gun charges, and include a defendant's history of gun use when determining bail.
