The state has begun a concerted effort to crackdown on the rise of unemployment insurance fraud.
The state Department of Labor detected $11 million in insurance fraud in August alone. This fraud mostly consisted of people working while collecting disability.
Gov. Kathy Hochul is hoping to protect benefits for those who need it by holding those who take advantage accountable. More changes to detect fraud will come in over the next four years.
The Department of Labor Office of Special Investigations added it is hoping to uncover $110 million in insurance fraud.
