Members of the New York State Nurses Association met in Times Square Thursday for a conference to launch their "We Love New York Nurses" campaign.
The campaign aims to convince their employers to provide safe staffing, fair wages, parity with New York City's private hospitals, as well as protection of health care and retirement.
According to NYSNA, over 30,000 New York nurses’ contracts will expire at the end of this year. Before they renew, they want their message to be heard.
Those at the event said it is only the beginning of getting organized, mobilized and demanding the respect that they deserve.
Until their contracts expire on Dec. 31, members of NYSNA say they will host local town halls, speak outs with politicians, and request in person meetings with their employers to negotiate their demands.
