New Yorkers who moved to Florida and others who have second homes in the Sunshine State were worried Wednesday as Hurricane Ian made landfall.
One family that still resides in the Bronx told News 12 they were watching the wind pick up through their surveillance cameras in their Florida home.
A video sent to News 12 by other New Yorkers who now lives in Venice, Florida shows a small lake behind one home looking like a river, with water rising and the wind blowing the palm trees in every which direction.
Another video was sent to News 12 by Bailey and John Provetto, who live in the Bronx. They have a home in Davenport not far from Orlando. They were watching the storm from security cameras around their home, but their concerns were growing here at home.
The Provettos said residents were hunkering down as all public spaces and the stores are all closed. They said they were worried about debris flying and hitting a window of their home or a tornado happening in their neighborhood.
Former New York resident Nicholas Dirubbo, now lives in Davenport, Florida. He video chatted with News 12 and showed the wind getting stronger.
He said he bought supplies in advance like flashlights, a radio, a generator and water. He said his family also bought food. Dirubbo said he was happy he bought those supplies and food in advance as he said stores all over central Florida closed due to Ian.
