The newly renovated Bronx Library Center fully equipped with more than 100 computers opened its doors in Kingsbridge Tuesday.

The library, which cost $50 million to renovate, is five stories high and features more than 200,000 books. It also has a Latino and Puerto Rican cultural center. It is triple the size of the former library and is environmentally friendly. Susan Kent, of the New York Public Library, says the new facility will help Bronx residents in school and with opening up a new business.

Despite all the new perks, the Fordham-Bedford Housing Corporation says there is still work that needs to be done on the outside. Corporation officials say the building needs to be made handicap accessible and additional lighting outside and repairs to the steps on the side of the building. The group says Bronx leaders have already pledged more than $1 million to the project.
