Vision Zero recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. The program is part of Transportation Alternatives’ efforts to make New York City less risky for all types of commuters and vehicles.
According to a report, East 138th Street in the Bronx is considered one of the deadliest roadways in the five boroughs. Transportation Alternatives says there has been 12 traffic deaths there over the past decade.
That same report finds that even after 10 years, New York City has not yet reached "Vision Zero." In the first year of the program, the city saw 259 traffic deaths. In 2023, crashes killed the exact same number of people.
