Nonprofit offers free music programs for NYC kids
A nonprofit organization is offering free music programs for students throughout the five boroughs, and now that program is expanding.
The Harmony Program is a citywide organization that provides free music lessons in classrooms and after-school programs, and they say this year they’re tripling in size.
“Here, we’re looking at about 20 partnering schools with about 3,000 kids total,” said program director Alex Krawzyck. “What this will be is that sort of next step after a kid graduates from our elementary or middle school programs, they can continue learning, even if their school doesn’t have the in-school or after-school programs anymore.
Students and faculty involved with the program say that music has served as an outlet for them and helped kids build self-confidence and their own voice.
The Harmony Program serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
