A Black-owned, local nonprofit is doing its part to help underserved neighborhoods get tested for the coronavirus.
Just Been Tested brings coronavirus testing to people who have trouble accessing an urgent care facility through their mobile testing van.
The nonprofit was in Fort Greene Saturday to test people and set others up for future appointments.
Just Been Tested has been doing health screenings for illnesses like HIV and hepatitis since 2014.
When the pandemic hit and underserved communities were hit hard by the coronavirus, staff focused on testing people for COVID in those neighborhoods.
The van goes across New York City and their website tells residents where they are located for the day. People can then walk to the van and get either a rapid or PCR test.
Staff tells News 12 their goal is to eliminate inequality in health care, bringing a variety of services and education to underserved neighborhoods.
The van only does testing, but they are hoping to also start vaccinating people in the future.
