NYC benefit programs application goes mobile
The city has unveiled its new benefits app, which allows residents applying for welfare the ease of doing so from their smartphones.
The city's welfare agency launched 'HRA Access,' an app that allows residents who wish to use programs like cash assistance or food stamps, the ability to apply from their phones instead of on-site locations that are often burdened with long lines and wait times.
The app allows applicants to upload the necessary documents to the Human Resources Administration without ever stepping foot into the agency, officials say.
The app is available is seven different languages and also features talk to text capability.
HRA officials estimate 180,000 in-office appointments will be avoided due to the new app.
