The City Council's committee on health will hold a vote Tuesday on a bill to prohibit the sale of guinea pigs in pet shops.
The bill comes as animal care centers across the city dealt with an influx of guinea pigs in 2022.
Animal Care Centers of NYC says over 750 guinea pigs were taken in by the organization that year, tripling since 2019.
