The city's Office of Emergency Management has launched a podcast to help New Yorkers be better prepared in case of an emergency situation.
"We want to reach people every way possible, whether it's social media, on TV, in the newspaper, or a podcast,” Omar Bourne, of the OEM, says, "We are always looking for innovative ways to get our message across."
The 'Prep Talk' podcast series simplifies emergency preparedness and takes the pressure off getting prepared, officials say.
Director of Communications at OEM Allison Pennisi says the show features different guests like first responders.
"We recently had members of the FDNY, the Department of Sanitation; we also had someone from the National Weather Service to talk about the Atlantic hurricane season."
She describes the podcast as a round table of guests who sound off on the tips she says New Yorkers need to gear up for the next big storm or emergency event, before it arrives.
"We really want New Yorkers  to know that the city's emergency management is here for them to help them prepare before an emergency, during an emergency and after," Bourne says.
