New York City was just awarded state funds to update its emergency communications systems, including 911 calls.
Officials say the goal is to provide the tools needed for emergency responders to more efficiently work. A total of $55 million was awarded to counties across the state, with over $6 million coming to New York City.
The money was made possible by two grants that will go toward enhancing emergency response and overall collaboration between county and state agencies during emergencies.
