The New York City Marathon is less than two days away, and the big race is back at full capacity with over 50,000 runners expected to participate.
An expo for runners and coaches arriving from all over the globe took place at the Javits Center on Friday, where runners can grab their bib numbers, buy official gear, and get to know their fellow runners.
Petra Peterhaensel flew in from Frankfurt, Germany, and says even though she has run other marathons, running the NYC Marathon is a dream come true.
“New York, it’s the city that never sleeps,” said Petra. “It’s a great city, great country and I love to be here.”
New Yorker Rozanna Radakovich is participating in her 36th marathon, and says she loves seeing the other boroughs and how the city comes out to support on race day.
“I just love doing it, it makes me feel proud of myself,” said Radakovich. “Now that I’m handicapped, it’s even prouder.”
For many, it’s been a long road to reach this point, and for Long Vu who trained for the cancelled 2020 marathon, Sunday’s race will be long overdue.
“It’s been about 18 weeks of training so it’s a lot of time, a lot of effort, commitment,” said Vu. “I’m going to probably feel a lot of emotions when I finish.”
The expo is open to the public through 5 p.m. on Saturday, and the marathon kicks off at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
