Several representatives in New York City, including Rep. Jamaal Bowman, reintroduced a resolution in the House that would designate Aug. 11 as Hip-hop Celebration Day.
Hip-hop turns 50 years old this year and city officials are looking to further honor the American-made art and culture born in New York City. The resolution will also establish Aug. 2023 as Hip-Hop Recognition Month and November 2023 as Hip-Hop History Month.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, who led the resolution in the Senate, recently announced they unanimously passed the resolution.
