The New York City Parks Department has announced an emergency rule that could limit the amount of permits granted during the World Cup this summer.
Under the new rule, large events that didn’t take place last year that will require police presence could be rejected if the city doesn’t have enough staffing to safely manage them.
However, returning events, demonstrations and small gatherings that don’t need police oversight will not be impacted.
The city says this is a safety precaution for when millions from around the world travel to New York City to experience the World Cup, which will run between June 11 and July 19.
