NYC reducing speed limits in select areas as Sammy's Law comes into effect

The law is named after 12-year-old Sammy Eckstein who was fatally struck by a driver in Brooklyn in 2013.

New York City will be reducing the speed limit in certain areas across the five boroughs as Sammy's Law goes into effect.
The law is named after 12-year-old Sammy Eckstein who was fatally struck by a driver in Brooklyn in 2013.
This new legislation will allow certain streets to have their speed limits lowered to 20 mph outside of Manhattan, with some roads able to lower it to 10 mph.
The city will provide a 60-day notice and a comment period with local community boards.
