Sunday marks a year since the first New Yorker died from the coronavirus.
An elderly patient spent her final moments at Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn. Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted information as the news broke, saying “The patient, an elderly woman with advanced emphysema, was admitted to the hospital last week as one of our first cases, and had been in critical condition ever since.”
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a year ago that the state had a total of 612 positive coronavirus cases.
He also announced a second coronavirus-related death, a 65-year-old man in Rockland County.
The number of positivity coronavirus cases have surpassed over 774,000 throughout the city.
During a virtual ceremony, the mayor expressed sympathy for the lives lost and sent an optimistic message for the future as COVID-19 cases and deaths in the city continue to decline.
