Last month, the City Council passed the city’s 2023 fiscal budget, which included a near $215 million cut from school funding.

On Wednesday, New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks met with the city’s Panel for Education Policy to discuss restoring those funds.

“We have been listening. We have been talking,” said chancellor Banks. “We have been negotiating. And we're certainly hopeful that we can come up with something that would provide a greater level of relief to our schools."

Chancellor Banks shared during the meeting that he could not say more beyond the fact that members of City Council and the mayor’s office are currently in discussions to have the schools' budget reevaluated and reallocated.
