The heat is not stopping people from heading out and working to make ends meet during the pandemic, especially the city's vendors.
Dozens of vendors were out on Fordham Road at 7 a.m., setting up for the day ahead.
Luzio Gonzalez is one of the dozens of vendors who have been working along Fordham Road for years.
"All we can do is deal with it and just smile even though it's hot,” says Gonzalez.
The reality is the heat is the least of their problems, according to some vendors. The pandemic has hit many of them hard and like Gonzalez, he says he is just hoping to make enough to pay rent.
"I used to work in the morning here and then I would head to another job, but I lost my second job because of the pandemic and this is all I have to survive,” says Gonzalez.
Others like Oralea Vargas resorted to selling for the first time after the restaurant she worked at closed down.
"I just keep telling myself I have to keep going and figure it out,” says Vargas.
