Today, students throughout the boroughs will head back to school for in-person learning under COVID safety protocols. Remote learning is not an option this year.
As every student in the city will be welcomed back inside the classroom, there's going to be new protocols in place despite the pushback from some.
Everyone inside a school will have to wear a mask, and the Department of Education is emphasizing the push to get kids 12 or older vaccinated. They have said if any students want to be involved in an extra circular PSAL sport, activity, and even certain clubs, they will need to be vaccinated if they are 12 or older.
There's also going to be vaccine sites open at every junior high and high school citywide to give students the chance to get vaccinated during the first week of school
The Department of Education says they will be setting up more than 700 vaccination sties at schools around the city every day this week.
Although of now, there's no vaccine mandate for students.
