A person is dead, and two others are recovering today after yet another violent night across the borough.
Police say three people were shot in East Flatbush on Avenue D and East 34th Street.
“An individual pulls out a firearm striking several individuals at what looks like may have been a function or a gathering,” says Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison.
Police tell News 12 one of the victims tried his best to run home, but he collapsed in front of his home. News 12 is told he was 41 years old.
“The family is distraught, I just spoke to some of the family members, they’re taking it very hard and understandably,” says Harrison.
About two blocks away on Brooklyn Avenue near the corner of Avenue D, surveillance video shows police speaking with a man lying on the ground.
“That was a family member trying to take one of the victims to the hospital. We engaged that vehicle and got our victim to an ambulance,” says Harrison.
He and another young man, who News 12 is told is in his 30s, were taken to the hospital in critical, but stable condition.
Lou Sanders lives down the street and says he was sleeping when he heard the gunshots.
“It’s just tragic for someone to lose their child to someone, to lose their brother, their father, their uncle. It’s just tragic and just shows the answer to all this that’s playing in New York City; we need a better relationship with God, we need Jesus Christ,” says Sanders.
“Innocent people were shot, and it looks like it’s gang-related, and we have to work together to be able to identify the perpetrators; I need people to come forward,” says Chief Harrison.
