A 75-year-old man is dead, and a 9-year-old girl is in critical condition after a serious crash on the BQE Thursday.

Police say the girl was sitting in the back of a taxi.

It happened just before 11 am.

Police say three cars crashed into each other on the BQE near the Kosciuszko Bridge.

One of the vehicles flipped on its side. At least five people were hurt, including a 75-year-old man who was rushed to the hospital but didn't survive.

Four others were also taken to the hospital for treatment. Police confirm they are in stable condition at this time. It's not yet known what caused the crash, but drivers say they're not surprised something like this happened.

The BQE has reopened at the Kosciusko Bridge but delays are expected.
