A 1-year-old boy was found dead and three other children were found hurt at a Bronx day care, according to the NYPD.
They were found just after 2:30 p.m.
Firefighters had decontamination tents set up outside of the day care during their investigation, as they were initially looking into the possibility of this being a carbon-monoxide related incident, which the FDNY has since ruled out.
The day care center, Davino Nino, is for children between six weeks and 12 years old. It is located in the basement of an apartment building on Morris Avenue. Nearby residents told News 12 that it is new and opened within the last year.
People who live on the same floor as the day care say they heard screams coming from the day care at around 2 p.m.
"I turned a corner and I saw one of the kids laying down unresponsive," said witness Mel Rivera. "I saw a second lady grab a different kid out that was also unresponsive."
Three other children, including the 1-year-old who died, were transported to Montefiore Hospital. A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition and an 8-month-old girl is in stable condition.
The investigation is now in the hands of the NYPD as they work to determine what exactly led to this tragic incident.
