A 13-year-old has been arrested and charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after stabbing a 13-year-old classmate outside of the Ocean Hill Boarding Middle School in Brownsville, according to the NYPD.
Police tell News 12 the weapon was recovered from the scene, and the victim remains in stable condition at an area hospital.
The knowledge that both the victim and alleged perpetrator were students at the school has parents asking how a weapon was able to be brought into a school building undetected.
"It is a very prestigious school and it is very disappointing that something like this happened, ending with a child in the hospital. And as a parent, I would like to know if something like this has happened in the past and what can be done to keep our children safe," said a parent who identified herself to News 12 as Mrs. Lewis.
News 12 reached out to the school and the school and the Eagle Academy for Young Men, both listed as operating at the school address on Herkimer Street for comment and did not hear back.
