A 24-year-old man was shot and killed late Friday night in Mount Hope, raising concerns for a community that has seen multiple shootings recently.
Police say they responded to a call around 10 p.m. near Anthony Avenue and East Tremont Avenue, where they found Mahmudo Jabbi with several gunshot wounds to his back.
He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where he later died.
Kim Brown, a nearby resident, said she heard several shots, initially mistaking them for fireworks.
“When I heard the cops, I figured, someone must’ve gotten shot,” she said.
This was just one of four shootings in the area within the past few days, three of which turned deadly.
Residents, like Emmanuel Alcina, are increasingly worried about the safety of the neighborhood.
“It just makes me feel unsafe to be around here,” he said.
No arrests had been made as of Saturday evening.
It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.
Police urge anyone with information to contact them.
