NYPD detectives said 3 people were injured after shots were fired on an MTA bus Saturday afternoon in Longwood.

A News 12 crew on the scene observed a bullet hole through the window of the BX4 bus that was struck by gun fire.

Witnesses said two men were involved in an altercation on East 156th Street when the gunfire erupted. They said one of the men ran up Titon Avenue towards Westchester Avenue where a BX4 bus sustained damage from a bullet.

One witness told News 12 she heard about 15 gunshots go off.

The gun fire went through the bus window and hit a 59-year-old woman. Police said the shattered glass also injured two additional riders.

All three passengers were taken to Lincoln Hospital to be treated.

A street vendor who was eating across the street told News 12 he saw the bus stop before people rushed off. He said he went on the bus to see what was happening, and said he saw a woman clutching her shoulder with at least two other people standing by her trying to administer first aid.

The NYPD said the suspect is a male who was seen wearing a green shirt.

In a statement, MTA President Richard Davey said in part, "This is another reminder that gun violence has no place in this or any city, that it can victimize innocent bystanders, and we are grateful no bus passengers appear to have been seriously hurt."

No arrests had been made as of Saturday night.
