NYPD: 36-year-old man dead after Christmas Eve stabbing in Mount Hope

A 36-year-old man is dead after police say he was stabbed Tuesday morning in Mount Hope.
Police said the victim was stabbed in the chest and leg shortly before noon on the sidewalk outside 101 East Tremont Ave., near Morris Avenue.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police officers and the NYPD Crime Scene Unit spent hours collecting evidence, including spots of blood on the apartment building steps and surveillance video.
News 12 was told that surveillance video showed the victim and suspect inside a nearby laundromat. When one man tosses a cell phone on a table, the two people appear to get into a verbal argument.
An employee at a nearby bodega told News 12 that he heard screaming and people running.
One neighbor said he was shocked, especially for it to happen on Christmas Eve.
“This is unexpected around here,” said Stephen Pinks, of Mount Hope. “It’s a pretty cool neighborhood for the most part. It has its issues, but it’s pretty good.”
As of Tuesday evening, police had not released the victim’s name. It was not known if the suspect and victim knew each other.
No arrests have been made.
