A 5-year-old girl was shot in Olinville and is in critical condition, according to the NYPD.
Police say the girl was sitting in a car when she was struck by a gunshot in her back. The NYPD is investigating two different locations, including the intersection of East 213th Street and White Plains Road, and looking for the suspect(s) responsible.
Zola Peguero was doing laundry nearby when she saw the scene unfold at the intersection.
"He was like going crazy, my daughter my daughter she's shot, she's shot, help, help, help," said Peguero. "I was really nervous because I have my kids."
Peguero says she saw two NYPD officers rush to the aid of the father, driving the 5-year-old to the hospital from the scene immediately. Police say she was in the vehicle with her father when the incident took place.
Police have not determined who the intended target is or what prompted the shooting.
No arrests have been made at this time.
