A hit-and-run in Gravesend killed a 75-year-old woman early Friday morning.
The NYPD says the woman was crossing West Sixth Street when a dump truck turned left onto the road and struck her. Witnesses say the driver got out and began shouting. Shortly after, police say a black Jeep hit the woman.
"It was very scary. My stomach started hurting right away that someone would even do that and considering that's someone's mother, aunt, sister laying on the floor," said the witness.
Two regulars to the area say cars often run red lights at the nearby intersection.  NYPD data shows there have been 27 injuries since 2018 at the Shell Road and Shore Parkway intersection, where the woman's body was near.
The Department of Transporation says there are 580 Brooklyn intersections with more injuries in that time period.
“NYC DOT will review street design at this location as we do for all fatal traffic crashes," says DOT spokesperson Mona Bruno.
