A hit-and-run crash injured a 9-year-old girl in Riverdale Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.

The NYPD says two cars collided just after 8 a.m. on West 261st Street and Huxley Avenue.

Police say the child suffered a head injury but is expected to recover.

The child's mother was driving the car. Police tell News 12 the two drivers got out of their cars, then one ran away and left a silver Honda Accord behind. Inside the car was a Shrek sticker and Spiderman walkie talkies.

The driver's identity and whereabouts are unknown. It is also unclear if the driver had any children.

The Honda's license plate indicates it was a rental car from South Dakota. News 12 reached out to the rental company and is waiting to hear back.

Neighbors in the area say people drive fast down this road and that increased signage and police patrols would make the area safer.
