Police have arrested a suspect in connection to the human torso and other body parts found inside a Highbridge apartment.
Investigators say a human torso and other body parts were found inside an apartment Tuesday following a wellness check. Officers identified the victim as 44-year-old Collin Small, who was found inside his apartment at 979 Summit Ave.
Law enforcement officials say that Small's body parts were found scattered in various bins, bags, and even the freezer inside of his own home. They say the wellness check that led to this discovery was made by the superintendent of the building after neighbors heard multiple gunshots.
Police arrested 48-year-old Sheldon Johnson. He is being charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
Johnson appeared in Bronx Criminal Court on Thursday night, where a judge denied bail.
Bronx district attorney Darcel Clark referenced surveillance video from the apartment that shows the man they say is Johnson going in and out of the elevator multiple times in different outfits.
Clark says at one point, Johnson was seen leaving in the victim's clothes, adding that Johnson was the only person seen on the surveillance video at the time of Small's murder.
Johnson has an extensive criminal history and had recently been released from jail in 2023 after serving 25 years in prison. His relation to Small is unknown at this time.
Johnson is due back in court on March 11.
