An infant in a minivan that was stolen in Mott Haven this morning was found safe in Hunts Point, the NYPD said.
Police say the mother and her 6-month-old child were reunited and taken to a hospital to be examined.
The stolen gold Chrysler minivan was found at the corner of Oak Point Avenue and Casanova Street. Police originally said they were looking for a male suspect in his 30s. They announced Sunday afternoon that a 53-year-old was in custody.
Surveillance video from a nearby shop shows the moment that a man drove off in the van. Minutes later, the child’s mother exited a deli and realized her van and her infant inside of it were gone.
The child was unharmed. Details surrounding the 53-year-old suspect were not immediately available.
