An on-duty NYPD crossing guard was attacked in broad daylight while on the job in Highbridge, police say.

The attack happened at the intersection of Gerard Avenue and East 167th Street on March 5 at 8:15 a.m. This is peak hours for crossing guards as kids are heading to school.

The 46-year-old crossing guard was on duty when a person she didn't know approached her and punched her in the chest. We're told she had chest pains while she was being checked out on scene, but later she went to the hospital on her own for further evaluation.

Police say the person responsible ran away after the attack.

Police are asking if anyone has any information to come forward and call the Crime Stoppers hotline.
