The NYPD is taking extra safety measures this Fourth of July holiday weekend to keep New York residents safe.
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the effort to combat drunk and drugged driving, saying that every holiday weekend brings out dangerous driving.
Since many New Yorkers will be out celebrating, the NYPD will be focusing on identifying and arresting impaired drivers.
According to the DOT, in New York, around 3,000 residents are injured and more than 200 killed every year from traffic crashes.
City officials want to remind everyone that if you're thinking about drinking, make sure you don't have to drive.
The city is also urging New Yorkers to use ride shares, like Lyft and Uber, or even carpool with a friend to be safe.
