Monday marked seven years since NYPD detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were assassinated.
Liu and Ramos were killed as they sat in their patrol car in Bed-Stuy. They were honored with a Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Bensonhurst.
Both of the families say the pain is still very real.
They were surrounded by loved ones, fellow officers, Mayor-elect Eric Adams and the next NYPD commissioner, Keechant Sewell. "We're just really here today to show our respect. We stand under the tree of freedom because of the men and women of the police department who have watered that tree with their blood and sacrifice,” said Adams.
Since their passing, both families have launched foundations in the officers’ names. Later this week, the Rafael Ramos Foundation plans to host a toy giveaway.
