The incident occurred shortly before noon when police say they discovered a the woman lying in the middle of the road, unresponsive with traumatic injuries.
First responders rushed her to New York City Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where officers say she was pronounced dead.
Police say they're looking for a green dump truck that did not stop and they're investigating whether the driver realized they hit someone.
The intersection is just steps away from multiple high-rise apartment buildings and a shopping center where there increased car and foot traffic. Some residents told News 12 they have experienced hazards in the area of the accident.
"...It almost becomes a blind spot. You don't see the pedestrian coming into that crosswalk until you're almost upon them," said Herby Negron.
According to Vision Zero data collected in the past five years, 14 people have been reported injured at the intersection, five of them being pedestrians. The hit-and-run marks the first death to happen in the area since records have been kept.
Police are still working to notify the victim's family of the loss.
