The vast majority of complaints about New York City police officers' mistreatment of youths stemmed from encounters with black and Hispanic children, according to a new study by the city’s police watchdog agency. Nearly two-thirds of youth complaints to the Civilian Complaint Review Board involved children of color, the report says, including some “stopped for seemingly innocuous activities such as playing, high-fiving, running, carrying backpacks, and jaywalking." Police are increasing patrols in sensitive locations throughout New York City because of Saturday’s attack on Iran.

The United States and Israel launched major strikes against the nation early Saturday morning.

The strikes opened a stunning new chapter in U.S. intervention in Iran and marked the second time in eight months that the Trump administration has used military force against the Islamic Republic.

Police officials released a statement on X announcing that they will enhance security at diplomatic, cultural, religious and other relevant sites.

Gov. Kathy Hochul says there are no current credible threats, but law enforcement will continue working to keep citizens safe.

Anyone aware of suspicious activity is urged to call 1-888-NYC-SAFE or 911.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
