A suspended NYPD inspector accused of sexually assaulting a subordinate officer appeared in Bronx Criminal Court on Friday, where he was arraigned on multiple felony charges stemming from an alleged incident that prosecutors say occurred on New Year's Day 2025.

Inspector Jeremy Scheublin, a longtime NYPD supervisor, appeared visibly stunned as the charges against him were read in court.

Outside the courthouse, dozens of supporters, including fellow police officers and community members, gathered to show support for the suspended officer, applauding and chanting his name as he arrived and departed.

According to court documents and a civil lawsuit, the alleged victim, a female NYPD officer who was assigned under Scheublin's command at the time, claims he called her into his office on Jan. 1, 2025. The complaint alleges that Scheublin made repeated inappropriate comments to the officer, including telling her, "I want to make biracial babies with you."

The lawsuit further alleges Scheublin grabbed the officer, threw her onto a couch, attempted to kiss her and tried to remove her gun belt. The officer claims she fought back and escaped after kicking him in the groin.

Scheublin now faces several charges, including attempted rape, sexual abuse and assault. A judge set bail at $25,000.

Despite the allegations, several former colleagues publicly defended Scheublin outside the courthouse.

"I'm a female, never had any weirdness or anything like that from this man," said former NYPD Detective Denise Melendez.

Melendez, who said she worked closely with Scheublin for years and served as his personal assistant for approximately five years, said she does not believe the accusations.

"I don't for a second. I absolutely don't," she said.

She described Scheublin as a respected figure among officers and members of the community and said she was devastated when she first learned of the allegations.

"To all of us cops and the community, he was this amazing person," Melendez said. "I was hurt that he has to endure this process."

Scheublin is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 30 as the criminal case moves forward.
