A suspect is wanted for killing a man during a drive-by shooting Friday night in Morris Heights, according to police.
Authorities say gunfire went off outside of a building on Sedgwick Avenue and struck Miguel Cruz, 47, in the head.
Cruz was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he later died. No arrests have been made.
Police told News 12 that shots went off outside a playground next to 1600 Sedgwick Ave.
A neighbor who did not want to be identified said that this is usually a quiet block.
Rhonda Rivera, a neighbor close to the victim, said he worked at a nearby hospital and recently moved back into the building to be closer to his family.
“We are hurting. He was a beautiful soul. He has twin daughters. They live on my floor. I see him every day. He always gives me love. And I’m just so sorry,” she said.
Rivera says he was a family man and did not cause any trouble in the neighborhood.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
