Police say a 28-year-old Bronx man was shot multiple times Saturday in Melrose Commons Park.
According to the NYPD, officers first responded to calls of an assault occurring at E. 162nd Street and Melrose Avenue around noon.
Upon arriving to the scene, police told News 12 that they found an unidentified man with gunshot wounds to the left leg, right arm and forearm. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in critical condition but stable.
Police have not yet made any arrests or released information about a suspect.
A witness living in the apartment building across the street says they heard gunshots from their window and saw children inside the park.
"To see vulnerable children – to learn that they may have been impacted is kind of alarming," said another witness who was in the area.
