A newborn baby was found dead on Wednesday morning behind a building in Soundview, according to police.

Police say they responded to a 911 call at 1150 St. Lawrence Ave. and found the baby unconscious and unresponsive at around 11:15 a.m.

The super of the building tells News 12 that a contractor found the infant naked in an area that’s not easy to access. He says he couldn’t tell how long the newborn had been there.

Neighbors say the newborn was found near where the trash is kept with the umbilical cord still attached.

Officials say EMS responded and pronounced the newborn dead at the scene.

Police say they believe the baby is a girl.
