The NYPD said an off-duty corrections officer and two other people were injured in a shooting in Queens Village, Queens, on Sunday night.
They say it happened around 8 p.m. on Jamaica Avenue and 214th Place.
As of Sunday night, investigators had the area closed off as they were still surveying the crime scene.
Authorities said one of the victims was transported to Jamaica Hospital and another to Northshore Hospital.
The conditions of all three victims and a motive behind the shooting were unknown as of Sunday night.
A man who was in the area said he was in a corner store when he heard multiple shots rang out.
When he came out of the store, he said he saw a group of people running away in the streets.
He said he heard fireworks ahead of Fourth of July celebrations but added that the gunfire he heard was distinct from the fireworks.
