Irreplaceable family heirlooms, passports, Social Security cards and other sensitive documents were stolen from a home in Morris Park.
Police say two unidentified women entered the home near Loreto Playground at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Video from the home shows the women, including one wearing a mask, enter through the side door. They knock twice to ensure no one is home. That's when the homeowner says they pushed up his camera to block it from capturing the rest.
The homeowner, who did not want to be identified due to fear for his family's safety, says he was at work and his daughter was at school during the time. He says his elderly mother had just left the house about five minutes before the break-in occurred.
The man says thieves stole his safe that was filled with personal papers and jewelry, including his late-father's chain necklace and engraved ring.
"I just don't want this to happen to anybody else, it's a horrible experience, and scary, especially when you have a kid in the house, as well as an elderly lady who lives there, who can't defend themselves," said the homeowner.
Crime statistics from the NYPD show there have been 13 reported burglaries in the 49th Precinct this year, down from 17 at the same time last year.
It is unclear if the two women acted alone with others. The NYPD is offering up to a $3,500 reward to anyone who may have information that leads to an arrest.
