NYPD officer accidentally shoots himself while off-duty in Kingsbridge Heights, sources say

An NYPD officer accidentally shot himself in the leg while off-duty in Kingsbridge Heights, police sources say.

It happened on Bailey Avenue near Van Cortlandt Avenue West just after 2 p.m. Thursday.

Citizen app footage from the scene shows the 33-year-old man being held up by paramedics as they walk him out of a home and into an ambulance.

The NYPD says the officer was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

Additional details surrounding the circumstances of the accidental discharge were not immediately known.
